Spring Break '06! Hilarity follows...

Here I am, at the downward slide of Spring Break '06 (this is where you yell "WHOOOOOO!" and hold up the rock-on symbol). I know it might appear that I've had a wild and crazy week, but it's actually been pretty low-key. Oh, but check it out! I am updating from home!! That means we have cable internet now. AND basic cable. Which means I have VH1 again. Thank God almighty. So here are some fun pictures to amuse all of you friends while you're at work and I'm still in my PJs at 3:25 p.m. Hate me yet? Enjoy!
I know Kat has this on her blog too, but it just makes me gosh darn happy. Matt asked me who wrote on his mirror that night... Uhhhhhh.... I have no idea what he's talking about. PS- apparently, the shower is a perfectly logical place to search when wanting to steal someone's beverages at a party. How very rude. :)
I'm not exactly sure, but I imagine that either the Daisy Duke song or a ditty by MC Hammer is playing. Perhaps it is "Whoomp, There It Is." Take your pick.
I went to Oaklawn yesterday with Lisa and Anne. This picture makes me laugh. Anne is not only laughing at me, but smiling because she won a little bit every single race. I, alas, did NOT. I had a strategy to choose Spanish-sounding horses or jockeys. Uhhh... didn't work. I threw that stupid idea out the window and started calling Cody for his gut instinct. Muuuuch better.
I went to Conway to finally see Christy and Ashley's "new" house (that they've lived in for many months). I got to see Sebastian and renew my undying love for him. He's wearing a Darth Vader costume. It made me happy, and that's really what it's all about.

1 more hour, and....

I just got this picture from my Grandma. My cousin, Sarah, just had a baby boy named Bridger! Congratulations, Sarah and Christian! That's a good lookin' baby. She's the first one of us the Schirmer clan (my mama's side) to get out of the Babyless Club. Congratulations!!
One more hour till I'm gone... bye folks!

4 hours left... I'm DYING.

Now don't be hatin' on me. Just because I chose a profession where I happen to get lots of vacation time. :) I don't have much time to put into this post today, but I wanted to say adios before my break. I will update whenever I am around a computer with internet. Hopefully I can do that a couple of times. Meanwhile, I plan to get a massage... sleep till noon every day... stay up late at night (past 10! whoooooo! I'm wild and crazy!)... and actually get some things done.
Plans for the weekend: Lucero is playing at Vino's for a fundraiser for Children's Hospital on Saturday. Hopefully Jeremy will be back from Ohio by then (he got called in for work- something blew up I guess), since he has not been to a show in FOREVER. The music gods aren't happy with him for some reason. That night is Matt's 90s party, which should be awesome. I have to find a costume... I love theme parties. No plans for tonight, so if you're in the greater Little Rock area, let me know! I think Cody's coming in to town... My boo! Have a great weekend, everyone. I'll check in throughout the week! Peace out!

2 Days...

I can't concentrate. I have 2 more days. "2 more wake-ups" as my mom used to tell me when I was looking forward to something.
So last night I watched the new "Unanimous" show on Fox, where there are people underground (I don't believe it) and they all have to agree who wins the 1.5 million dollar prize. Ok, lovely, lovely.
The BEST part about this show... is that it's hosted by JD Roth of Funhouse, one of the greatest kid game shows of all time besides Double Dare.
Who remembers it...? There was a track they raced around, grabbing tokens, then they got to go through the funhouse at the end, winning cash and prizes. It was awesome. Click here to refresh your memory. Please feel free to entertain me, everyone. I want to see some updating on those blogs.

3 More Days...

Did you guys miss me yesterday? I didn't get a free period during the day (can you believe it??), so I didn't even get a chance to update. Let alone look at Toothpaste for Dinner. I think by the end of the day I started to twitch and break into a cold sweat. It wasn't pleasant.
Yesterday was an absolute success, though. I taught my class on reality tv. I even told them that I'm in a Fantasy Survivor league. I actually saw the fear in their eyes that said, "Oh, God. One day I'm going to be like that, aren't I?" I assured them that they would, and that it's not quite as sad as it sounds. Then I swore I really do have friends.
Anyway, I awed them with my extensive knowledge of the history of reality TV (the first official reality TV show was "Candid Camera" in 1953). Then we talked about different kinds of reality TV (documentary style/makeover/celebrity reality, and many more). We watched clips of "The Amazing Race," "Dr. Phil," and "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?". Yup, they love me now. Their assignment is to make their own reality show.
My brilliant idea is to put all reality hosts against each other in a grudge match, competing to win... er, something. The prize isn't important. What's important is watching Phil, Tyra, Jeff, Anderson Cooper, Ryan Seacrest, and Joe Rogan go head to head. To the death, maybe.
What's YOUR idea? While you're thinking... take this quiz to see if you're as obsessed as I am:

Reality TV Megaquiz..... ooooooooohhhhhh! Scary.

5 More Days till Spring Break.

... And counting... I had a pretty good weekend. Virginia was in town, and it was very good to see her. Turns out I haven't seen her since before Chandle left for Americorps. I've seen Chandle since then, and she lives in another state. We will do better now. Friday we went to the Fountain, Saturday we went to Ciao Bacci's. It was a good time. Katie was at Ciao Bacci's too, but her eyes were closed in the pic I have of her. Sorry, Kate. After that, Katie, Virginia, Annie and I played Taboo for several hours while eating some awesome pizza that Annie had in the freezer from some place in Tulsa. PS, Annie and I won. Good times.
By the way, this is media week here at CLS junior high (we're doing a thematic unit for 7th and 8th grade on all types of the media). Annie will be coming to speak to the entire junior high body. And I'm teaching my class on reality TV tomorrow. I've been doing research. More details to come.
I told Melissa and Greg I'd put a better picture of them up on the bloggity blog. So here it is... holla.
Saturday afternoon, Virginia and I went downtown to watch the St. Patty's Day parade. Anyone that could claim any Irish heritage at all was there, marching proudly. It was fun- lots o' bagpipes, Irish bloodhounds, and full-grown adults dressed up as leprechauns. It don't get much better than that. Word. I mean, Pauly Shore wasn't there or anything. But Vic Snyder was. Whoopdee doo! PS- Virginia and I ate pizza that day for lunch (Gusano's), dinner (leftovers), and midnight snack. Delicious and nutritious.

5 Reasons the Irish Are Stinkin' Fun

I myself am not Irish (dang), but here's a tribute to those whacky kids:

"Darby O'Gill and the Little People." If you haven't watched this movie since you were a kid (I think it was Disney?), then you must sometime soon. Chandle and I watched it recently, and I swear I hadn't laughed that hard in a loooong time. What a WEIRD movie. But I used to love it. Darby finds a leprechaun, gets granted some wishes, and craziness follows. There's some sort of creepy spirit in it... and the little leprechaun falls in beer and swims around. Hilarious.
One of the greatest horror movies of all time. For the amusement factor alone. It is really difficult to be scared of a little man (Willow, by the way) hopping around on a pogo stick saying, "I want me gold!!"
Jennifer Anniston is also in the cinematic great.
U2 circa "The Joshua Tree" and "Achtung Baby." Not now, so much. Sorry, guys. I used to have a strange crush on Bono.
Mmmm... Guinness- the beer of the Irish. Killian's is also good. Remember when we used to get that at Blues' Night all the time?
I went to the doctor and guess what he told me, GUESS what he told me?? He said girl you'd better try to have fun no matter what you do. But he's a fool. Cause noooooothing compares to you... Sinead.

The Appliance Gods Have Smiled On Me

And the appliance gods looked down upon Elizabeth, and they were pleased. So they bestowed upon her a washer and a dryer. Something she had been hoping and praying for ever since she lived in a little bitty one-bedroom apartment. She would lug her belongings over to the home of others who were blessed by the appliance gods. But alas, she had not yet found favor. Until today...
Thank you, appliance gods (AKA Matt and Meredith via Kat and Karl). You have saved me!

Beware the Ides of March!

Caesar didn't listen when forewarned, and look what happened to him... and the whole Roman empire. It's a full moon tonight, too. I'm just saying- it seems pretty ominous. Watch out today and tonight, folks. Good thing St. Patty's Day is coming up to counteract all the bad luck (with the leprechauns and such). Educate yourself today. Click here to learn more about the boogity woogity Ides of March. :) Do something fun to ensure Ides of March goodness.

Guaranteed to amuse you today at work

Go to this truly outrageous, truly, truly, truly outrageous retrojunk.com website to watch the intros to all your favorite 80s TV shows. It will make you happy today. Which is good, cause we all know Tuesday is my least favorite day of the week (except for the TV that's on at night- which is its only salvation). Lesson learned: TV creators + crazy drugs in the 80s= awesome TV for us. Which is your favorite??

Hey jealousy.

My weekend was highly laaaaid back. With my mind on my money and my money on mind. Semi-Notable Moments:
*Jeremy and I tried to take his jet ski for a spin on Friday after school. Little did we know, apparently the jet ski has to be in full motion in order for two people to get on there without tumping it over. And yes, the water was cold. If only I had pictures of us trying to get that thing going. Once the water gets warmer, we'll work it out. Summer of fun!!
*I went to Canon Grill and resisted the urge for cheese dip (which I stupidly gave up for Lent). It was tough, but instead I gorged on salsa. Close, but sigh...
*Sunday I went to watch Melissa's new man in action playing kickball. By the way, I am TICKED that I did not realize I could have formed a team and played. Everyone was drinking beer (while playing, no less) and grilling. There was a blender hooked up to a weed whacker motor for margarita madness. How awesome is that? Soo... teams can be formed once again for the fall season. I'm totally doing it. Who's with me?? Here is the official Little Rock Kickball website. JEALOUS. Next time, next time.
*I smashed my thumb (see pic below) and have a yucko blood blister. I'm so accident prone. I was closing a window. Der.
Have a good week, everyone. Stay out of trouble. 2 weeks till Spring Break and counting!!
My war wound. That's some sick stuff right there. Sick=awesome. It's hard to get all the glory of it all captured in a blurry photo. But you get the idea.

We've made it to another weekend.

Remember when TGIF meant another great night of the best night of television? Danny Tanner? "Step by Step?" "Family Matters" with the Urkel? Man, that's some quality entertainment right there. I had no life at all, did I?
Speaking of no life... last night was a great night of television. Survivor night was excellent- we had PB&J, corn dogs, rice crispie treats, pizza, and tater tot casserole. I even got some people to eat the veggie "meat." I had to tape "American Idol," but I know who got kicked off. SHOCKING. It's going to be a good season. PS- I can't help but love Ace (I wonder why...) and Taylor. I also taped "The OC" because I was watching "Beauty and the Geek" (I can't believe that was my first time to see it- it was awesome). So I have some good TV to watch when I get home today.
So... to make your day a little brighter,
click here to watch some funny Asians. The Backstreet Boys are universal across all languages. Have a good weekend! Peace!

The gorgeous Kiwa Hirsuta

According to this website:

"A team of American-led divers has discovered a new crustacean in the South Pacific that resembles a lobster and is covered with what looks like silky, blond fur, French researchers said Tuesday.
Scientists said the animal, which they named Kiwa hirsuta, was so distinct from other species that they created a new family and genus for it.

In what [the scientists] described as a 'surprising characteristic,' the animal's pincers are covered with sinuous, hair-like strands.
It is also blind. The researchers found it had only 'the vestige of a membrane' in place of eyes, Segonzac said."

This is what I imagine this new creature to look like. I've named him Captain Awesome.

Already a poopy day??

Well... it's currently 7:20, and my day as already shown signs of crap. Wednesdays are chapel at school, so I always try to dress up a little more than usual (i.e. nice pants and nice shoes). I pulled to the end of the driveway on the way to school, saw trash cans all up and down the street, and remembered that Wednesday is also trash day. So I jumped out, and started bringing the trash can down. I usually keep the trash-can- on-wheels extraordinare in the grass as not to wake up the neighbors who don't go to work at an ungodly hour. This day was no different. BAM. I slid on some dog poo. Yup. Dog poo. And I had open toed shoes on, so that's right- poo on the feet. A LOT of it.
I squealed a little girly squeal, then came to my senses and threw my shoe off. Well, that's no good- now I'm shoeless, I thought. So I tried to wipe it off with the grass. And when I say "wipe," I mean smear it around and gag profusely. My eyes are watering at this point and I'm trying not to barf. The shoes are currently in the carport. Sorry, Annie. So I hobbled inside, as not to track poo in the house, rolled up my nice pants, and stuck my foot in my bathroom sink, and tried not barf and/or pass out. Let's hope the rest of the day is less poopy.

There's something you should know about me.

Some people might call me a tad "obsessed." I call myself a fan. A huge, huge fan of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." I knew I had a connection to Trent on Pink Is the New Blog... but I understand now. I was looking at what he called his "best of" list and I zoned right in on his top 15 Buffy episodes. Now, I know that many of you out there think the show is stupid. I mean, listen to the title. But I swear it is the best show of all time. I will stand by that till my dying day, and I watch a lot of TV. I admit that I was also a skeptic at first. I saw that movie with Luke Perry in the 90s. DUMB. So when people whose taste I trusted swore by the show, I decided to give it a shot. But not without making fun of it the first 4 times I watched it or so. Then, it happened. I started to like it. Then I loved it. Then I found myself answering trivia questions online and knowing the names (SOMETIMES episode numbers) of all the episodes. Yes, I'm obsessed. And I don't care. Humor me, look at Trent's list. So many people can't be wrong... an Amazon search turned up 460 books alone on Buffy. Philosophy books, underground culture books... I could go on and on. But I won't- just humor me and check out a couple of the links.

The Philosophy of Buffy
Wikipedia entries- good stuff.
Buffy Speak 101
If you have not watched at least 4 episodes... negative comments are not welcome. :)

Yowza.

Owwww... My lovely little lumps in the back are very very sore today. Jeremy and I went for a bike ride down at the river (all the way from the dam to the Winrock building near Altell) yesterday to enjoy the awesome weather. I didn't notice it at first, but DANG I'm in pain today. I definitely need to invest in a gel seat cover. Ouchie. Seriously.
I also made a trip to the ever-dreaded (financially, I mean) Movie Exhange yesterday and invested in a little James Bond X-Box game. I decided it's time to get back into the video gaming world. It's been too long since the days of Grand Theft Auto and Prince of Persia. It is time. It has Sean Connery's voice, which makes it ever-amusing (I think at one point he tells someone to make him a sandwich as he punches him in the face). There is also a jet pack level. Doesn't get much better than that.
Right?

Ahhhh...

Thus begins the weekend. Well, I have about 8 more hours to go... I can make it. If you'll remember (Conwayers), David used to drive around and yell at people on bikes to get a job. Funny stuff. Especially since all of us pretty much rode around town on bikes (or skateboards or scooters, whatever was handy).
Tonight- no plans. Tomorrow- CLS fund raiser (the attire is "denim and diamonds"- help! What the heck does that mean??). Jeremy returns tomorrow evening.
Next week is National Lutheran Schools week- holla! There has been talk of reviving the "It's cool, cool, cool in a Lutheran school, school, school" song.
Have a fantabulous weekend!

Happy Birthday to my Papa Bear (yup, that's what I call him- so what?)

A very very happy birthday to my dad who turns... ohhhh somewhere between 60 and 62... today! I had my mom scrounge up an old picture of him. What a fox, huh? Real men have chihuahuas. He was way ahead of his time when it came to little dogs. :) Actually, I can't remember what the deal is with the dog. Mom? Any comments?
Anyway, happy birthday, Dad! I hope you have a great day. Thank you for all that you do for us girls. You're the greatest. Really, you are. Love you!!!
Things from the year he was born (a little history lesson for all of you):
*The Yalta Conference
*Hitler commits suicide and Germany surrenders
*The United Nations is established
*The Potsdam Conference
*Hiroshima and Nagasaki
*FDR dies and Truman becomes president
*Academy Award to Going My Way; also National Velvet and The Bells of St. Mary's were in this year
*Top of the charts: Gene Autry, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, and Bing Crosby
*F. Scott Fitzgerald and John Steinbeck
---->Bonus points to the person with info on the Yalta and Potsdam Conferences. No googling!!

Phat Tuesday with my new best friend, Ben

Oh, yes, that's right. We're best friends now. He told me it was good seeing me again. Gee... I wonder if I've been to one or two of his shows? I guess it doesn't go unnoticed for the big rock stars. It's not my first conversation with Ben, but it's my first picture. Notice how red my face is. I think I was shy. Ha, ha.
I took about 10 pictures just like this one where he's in various poses singing some of my favorites. Ben near the microphone. Ben playing guitar. Ben with head bent down, looking pensive. Seriously, though, this was one of the best shows I've been to in a long, long time. It was just Ben and Brian sitting and playing the acoustic guitar. There were only about 30 people standing in front and singing along with the songs. Ben kept forgetting the words, and we'd have to help him out. It was very reminiscent of old school Sound Stage days before the frat boys took over the crowd. It was awesome. My love for Lucero has been renewed (as if it was fading or something). They sang a lot of songs from their first album, and they took requests all night long. I loved it. Sorry you other Lucero people out there missed it.... it was amazing.
We had a great table and the place was completely packed. We were right next to the oxygen bar. The oxygen bar at the Flying Saucer. What?? It looks completely ridiculous to be sucking in some colored bubbling liquid-gas through your nose. What a weird idea. Anyway, it was a good Tuesday, nothing too terribly crazy, but definitely worth the sleepiness I will be enduring today.
I was very excited Melissa and Greg came. I tried to introduce him to New Belgium, but I don't think it worked in the end. I'm going to make Melissa a Lucero fan if it's the last thing I do.
