Update... so Annie and I were going on Monday to talk to our new landlord of our fabulous Heights house and sign all the paperwork. Since I was not "in the office," I waited around to hear when we were going to meet up and stuff. At about 5:00 p.m., Annie calls me after trying all day to get in touch with Mr. Fabulous (our landlord). "Ummmm.... bad news," she tells me with a slight quiver in her voice, "they're not going to rent us the house." I waited for her to say she was just kidding... but she never did. Apparently, they decided they just don't want to rent it AT ALL. Too bad it's days before Christmas and approximately a week before we were going to move in! As it sunk in, I swear I heard a crack of thunder outside my window. My dreams of living in the Heights were slipping away. Forget that! I'm gonna be freaking homeless! As a coping mechanism, we decided to go to the Flying Saucer. What better way to deal with homelessness than beer, right?
So I spent all day yesterday driving around with Katie (who's also out of school and has nothing better to do than write down phone numbers as we drove by houses) desperately trying to find a house. LUCKILY... we found one very very close to work. It's 3 bedroom, hardwood floors, 2 bath, and it has an extra room off the kitchen that we like to call "the game room." So we're sealing the deal today with the NEW landlord. And when I say "seal the deal," I mean that man will sign the lease in blood. There will be NO backing out this time. Details of a housewarming party to come...
Seriously, I have the worst luck, I swear.

On break now...

Hello to all! I am updating from my parents' house because I have no access to a computer since I'm not at work. You hear that? I'm not at work! Ha, ha. Ooooh, whatever- Kristen's in Cabo. She wins.
Had a great weekend- Lucero was flippin' awesome. It was completely sold out and completely packed inside there. Oh, how I miss the days when there were just a few of us standing in the front with plenty o' elbow room, and when the band realized we were singing along. Those were the days... but I'm glad they've gotten so popular, I suppose.
My grandmama came into town, so I've been over here quite a bit. Saturday I went with my daddy to the Razorback game. It was lots of fun. Other than that, I've been watching "Entourage" (the HBO show Cody gave me), "A Christmas Story" (that Ashley gave me- I've already watched it twice- AWESOME), and knitting. Ahhh yes, break.
Annie and I are working out the last details of our house and meeting with the landlord later on today. Seriously... any takers on trading man power (AKA helping me move) for beer?? Let me know!
Got this comic from http://www.toothpastefordinner.com. Good stuff- check 'er out. Holla!

Feliz Navidad...

So today is my last day at school. That means this morning we're taking the whole jr. high to see "The Chronicles of Narnia" then this afternoon we have our Christmas party (pizza and a whole bunch of stuff that's bad for you- yes!). Tonight is Lucero- I'm very excited. Tomorrow I'm going to the Razorback game vs. Rice at Altell in LR with my daddy. My grandmama will be in town, so that is fun too. I officially have a camera again, but I am never going back to CompUSA- apparently when you buy a warranty and something breaks, they will replace the PRICE of the item, not the item itself. Since it was on sale, I got screwed. Anyway, pictures to come soon!
By the way, this picture is from http://www.davidrgilbert.com/humor/christmas/ and it's called "How to be mean to kids." Ha, ha. This morning on the news, I saw a story of a man in AR (I think) that had one of those light up reindeer hung upsidedown in a tree with red lights coming off of it like blood. It's got the neighborhood in an uproar. Disturbing....
Hope everyone has a great Christmas!! I should be able to blog a little over break when I'm near a computer. Be thinking of me while you're at work! :) Wha ha ha!

I want to be a dentist! Or a figure skater!
Last night, I decided to curl up with my knitting and an old family classic, "Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer," (the new digitally remastered one, whatever that means). I was pretty excited, since I haven't seen it in quite some time. Little did I know, this movie is PACKED with social commentary, and I just have to let it out.First of all, it is perfectly clear that little elf is not just confused about what career he wants, if you get my drift. The elf boss is clearly homophobic, wanting him to fit in with the other elves. When this just wasn't going to happen, the little elf runs away, socially rejected.
And poor, poor Rudolf. His daddy (Dancer, Prancer, something-or-other?) is very embarrassed of his child's physical deformity. He actually covers it up with a black nose so he will fit in with the crowd. Now Rudolf, who didn't see himself as a freak before, feels not only rejected by his dad, but also his peers. Those dang reindeer wouldn't even freaking let him join in on their stupid reindeer games. Why can't they just all get along?? Also, what the heck is up with that awful squeaking his nose makes when it lights up? Reminds me of Jim Carey in "Dumb and Dumber"- the most annoying noise in the world.... Rudolf.
And the Island of Misfits? Geeeeezzzzz... don't even get me started. It's a whole mini-country of people (er, um, toys) that don't fit in. It IS nice in the end how Santa loads them all aboard and takes them to kids. But, seriously- who wants to be the kid that gets the cowboy that rides an ostrich, the boat that can't even float, the watergun that shoots jelly (eew), the Charlie-in-the-box with the horribly annoying voice, or the choo-choo train with square back wheels??
Let's just say it's a good dang thing the women took over once the "man of the house" (really, that's what they said) left. Where would Rudolf be if he didn't have a good woman to rescue him from the Abominable Snow-Beast? Eaten. So thank goodness.

All Sewn Up... With Bad Tattoos
This is an all-call for everyone who will be in Little Rock on Friday. Lucero (my favorite band of all time, a strong statement, I know) will be here once again. I'm used to seeing them just about every other month, but I haven't seen them since this summer, so it's about dang time. For those of you who haven't heard of them, go to Lucero's website to learn more (you can click on Audio/Video to hear them). They're from the area (Memphis/Little Rock and Conway), and they pretty much sum up my entire college experience. Notice the Arkansas flag tattoo on Ben in the picture. Anyway, for all you Conwayers, I'll see you there... for those of you who haven't been, this will be an excellent show to check them out. Oh, you can buy tickets online now or by phone. It might be a good idea since there will be many people wanting to go. Buy tickets from Vino's here.

You'll shoot your eye out.
I have to say that I love "A Christmas Story" pretty passionately. My Christmas is never complete until I watch it at least 3 times. Unfortunately, TBS has a monopoly on the market, and it's pretty much the only network that shows it, and I do not have cable. Therefore, I have to wait until Christmas day and watch the 24-hours of "A Christmas Story" marathon, much to my mom's chagrin. I can't help it. I love it. When Fleck licks the pole, when Santa kicks Ralphie down the slide, the infamous "ooooooooooooh fudge!" debacle... Who couldn't love it??
I am yet to shop for Christmas. I have purchased one gift, and it was something I ordered online. I think I feel I must get through this week first. This is the worst week at school, with a close second being the week before Spring Break. Must.... push... through...! Two weeks' vacation, here I come.
What's YOUR favorite Christmas movie?

Decapitated Santa and Snowmen Butts

This all started about 4 years ago. My sister and I were decorating the Christmas tree at my parents' house, when we noticed something very wrong. Somehow, over the past year, our Santa ornament had been decapitated. First we found the head, then we dug through the box more and found the sad little body. To this day, we get a huge kick out of it every time we get it out. Throw it away?? Heck no! It provides much too much amusement for us. We are very careful to set the head and the body just far enough apart so that you can tell. Also, notice the snowman booty on the right.
It was supposed to snow last night. I woke up at 3:30, thrilled to hear the sound of some hard sleeting. But that was it. Sigh... stupid weathermen getting my hopes up.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Lookie, lookie! It's totally going to snow tomorrow night!! There's a 70% chance, and Little Rock NEVER gets that! That means.... snow day fun for everyone! I always try not to get my hopes up for snow days, cause when I count on them, they don't happen. Jeremy has already purchased a Flexible Flyer sled. It's pretty awesome. Get ready people! I also have parking lot duty this week. That means that I stand outside in the freezing cold (I think I get the coldest weeks every year) and wave at parents while they drop off the kiddies. Technically, I'm supposed to make sure that no one gets run over, but that's my unofficial job. I have to take my hand out of my oh-so-warm coat and wave every 2 seconds. Meanwhile, my wet hair is freezing and getting crunchy. Love it.
By the way, my camera has broken, and I have to do the whole warranty thing. I'm sure it will be a completely pleasant experience. You won't have pics for a little while. Oopsies!

Home Sweet Home

Annie and I found a house on Saturday! We went house shopping with Matt (we made him jump out and write down numbers or knock on doors). We just happened to stumble upon the most perfect house ever- I'm so in love with it. It's in the Heights (I TOLD you I was movin' on up!), and it's two bedrooms and two baths. Hardwood floors... washer and dryer... dishwasher (which I've NEVER had in my whole renting history, unless you count the salad spinner dishwasher that Chandle and I had in Mansard- we never used it cause it was scary. Literally- a big salad spinner in the countertop)... and a HUGE backyard. I'm so very excited.
So if anyone's going to be around during Christmas break (maybe around the 28th or so...), I'll buy you beer if you want to pitch in!
10 more days of school left, and counting!! Have a good week, everyone!

Movin' on up!

As promised, here's the totally cute picture of Leah and Kristen from last weekend. Awww... Good luck to Leah on her PCAT even though she got screwed the first time.
Good news! Looks like I'll be moving over Christmas break. I've been really stressed about this whole house thing (I WANT a house but can't really afford one on my own, but all of YOU people are married or will be soon... so I haven't been able to find a roommate). I was talking about it last night, and it turns out Annie (Matty P's woman) needs a roomie too, so I gave my landlady my 30-day notice today. We're going to go lookin' for a new pad this weekend, I believe. Hopefully everything will work out just lovely. So no more having to endure the riverdancing and furniture moving from above me, and NO more late night conversations with my cracked out neighbor across the courtyard. I'm moving out- PEACE OUT!
Have a good weekend, everyone!!
