I readily admit that I am one of those who people who tries to hate Valentine's Day. Hallmark and Godiva and what-not. As I've gotten older, I realize that it's really not all about that hooplah blah blah blah. It's about having an excuse to tell people you appreciate them, and it gives you a chance to be extra nice. True, we should be doing those things every day. But we don't, right? My favorite Valentine's Day is when my college friends decided we were going to boycott the holiday and throw a big party. Jessica and Angeline (who lived next door to me and Chandle in the oh-so fabulous Mansard Apts.) hosted, and almost everyone I knew came. Whether they had a boyfriend/girlfriend or not. It was a blast. It was one of the first times that Melissa really hung out with me and my group of friends, and Kristen came up. It was fun.School's a-buzz today with cuteness. People are leaving valentines on each other's lockers, and people are gorging themselves on candy. We'll have a party this afternoon where the kids will gorge more and do the "Cha Cha" line dance inevitably.
Anyway, it is yet to be determined how I feel about the holiday. I'm still forming an opinion. I have historically been a bit of a pessimist when it comes to matters of the heart. I'm working on it. But here's part of an e-mail we girls got from Kimmy P. two years ago:
What’s more important today than getting stuff is knowing we have each other to share those moments of recognition that happen between good friends all the time. You all know what I’m talking about, and that’s why I love you all so much.
Word.

i still hate v-day. sigh. but i do remember a similar all girl v-day event my freshman year of college in which a ms. brooke apker knight danced with some drunk stranger in a bar and he threw her into a set of speakers or drums or something and she bled all over the place.. hahahahhahahahaa. her legs were skinned and scraped and bloody. it was hilarious.
i love those valentine cards. i also love v-day. i don't understand the anger towards this holiday. hello, chocolate, flowers, hearts, and candy. how can you hate that?
okay BLED ALL OVER THE PLACE is a little dramatic. and meredith and i walking back from the bar in heels and at a near-sprint was pretty funny too. you missed that part i think to go home and call your BOYFRIEND. that guy was effed up for real- DID NOT Even apologize. i think i saw him eating in my restaurant recently. i hid. hahahahahaha. vday is silly.
I got a funny e-mail from my friend Jess that I wanted to share:
To my single and non-single friends! Happy Valentine's Day! Kisses!!
Hugs!!!Chocolate!!Hearts that look nothing like real hearts!!
My pops gave me $20 for Valentine's Day. Well, he left me 20 dollars and it is Valentine's Day.... so I got a present, even if it's an "imaginary Valentine's" present versus "you are broke and have no money, so I'll give you some money" present.
I love you. Remember the pink stain that was on the floor, that was so disgusting.
I like Valentine's Day too, Kristen. Any excuse to buy presents and celebrate is welcomed by me! What's next on teh calendar...St. Pat's...
